How the eDPI calculation works

Your mouse reports movement to the game in counts determined by its DPI (dots per inch). The game then multiplies that movement by your sensitivity setting. eDPI combines both into a single number:

Worked example

Say you play with 800 DPI and an in-game sensitivity of 0.32:

800 × 0.32 = 256 eDPI

A teammate using 1600 DPI and 0.16 sensitivity has the exact same effective sensitivity — 1600 × 0.16 = 256 eDPI — so their aim speed matches yours even though their settings look different.

Common mistakes

• Comparing eDPI across different games. Every game scales sensitivity differently. 256 eDPI in one game is not the same speed as 256 eDPI in another — use a sensitivity converter instead.
• Copying a pro's sensitivity but not their DPI. Only the product matters. If you copy one factor without the other, your aim speed will be off.
• Changing DPI in the mouse software mid-session. Your muscle memory is tied to eDPI — keep one factor constant while you tune the other.

What is eDPI?

eDPI (effective DPI) is your mouse DPI multiplied by your in-game sensitivity. It lets you compare aim settings with other players even when they split the setting differently between hardware DPI and game sensitivity.

Is a higher eDPI better?

No. eDPI is a description, not a score. Lower eDPI gives finer control for precise aim; higher eDPI allows faster turns with less mouse movement. What matters is finding a value you can control consistently.

Does eDPI work across different games?

Not directly — each game scales sensitivity differently, so the same eDPI feels different in each game. Use a sensitivity converter or a cm/360 calculator to match your aim between games.
